Textile export push created opportunities worth US$40 mil.

The China Post news staff -- The four-year “Textile Export Promotion Plan” launched by the Ministry of Economic Affairs' (MOEA) Bureau of Foreign Trade in July 2008 has created about US$40 million-worth of business opportunities, said the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF), which was commissioned to implement the plan.

Two years into the plan, the TTF has successfully executed its first two phases by making in-roads in the final-product market in the U.S. and Europe as well as producers in Southeast Asia in its first phase from 2008 to 2009. The second phase, which began in 2010, was a continuation of the first phase as well as an expansion by incorporating the MOEA's plan to promote quality Taiwanese products in the emerging markets and the economic cooperation framework agreement (ECFA) signed by Taiwan and China in June, creating outstanding results in expanding Taiwan's markets in China and India.

“Trendy, functional and green technology” are the main trends in the development of textile products globally. All 18 businesses participating the “Textile Export Promotion Plan” based their R&D on these concepts to develop unique skills and textile products. For example, Singtex Technical Fabric successfully made the world's first functional fabrics from coffee grounds. The sporting jerseys made from recycled plastic bottles by Taiwanese manufacturer Hoyu Textile Co. Ltd. were used by players in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Evertex Fabrinology Limited also developed green products such as cool effect fabrics. These both trendy and unique products came as pleasant surprises in many international expos, resulting in a total of US$40 million-worth of business deals.
